Agility and Border Collie Information:
Border Collies excel in agility, due to their willingness to please, and they obey commands quickly. Agility consist of obstacles such as an A-frame, a thin raised walk-way, known as a dog walk, a tunnel, weave poles, a tire, a scale-jump, and a variety of other jumps.
Each dog is timed on each round, and penalties are given to those who have failed to do an obstacle, missed the marked touch point, deviating from the obstacle course, and also for exceeding the time limit.
You can make some of the equipment yourself. For example the weave poles can be PVC pipes hammered into the ground, and mine even flex! Some more equipment you can make yourself easily are the tunnel, see-saw, tire.
To make the tunnel, buy children's hula hoops and cut about a third off. Place these in the earth and put an old sheet over them and you have a tunnel!
The see-saw can be made with an old oil drum in good condition with a board laid over it. For the tire go to a bicycle repair shop and get a scrap tire.
If you are interested in agility and want more information, books, internet, and professional trainers can help you get started!
