Border Collie temperament:Border Collies are affectionate towards those they know and trust. They are reserved if they don't know or trust a person. This type of dog loves human company. Early socialization is a must for border collies as they may become very shy if not socialized! Obedience training is also very important!
Unruly kids may make the Border Collie aggressive, and provoke their herding instinct to control the child. However, Border Collies can be wonderful with children if both the child and the dog are taught to respect each other.
They can be excellent watchdogs (not guard dogs), and are well known for their responsiveness, alertness, and their intelligence. They are the smartest of all dog breeds.
Border Collies are intense when herding, and are willing to learn and please.
The traits that makes them a superior herding dog, also makes them excel at activities such as agility, flyball, Search and Rescue, etc. |
