Common behavior Problems in Border Collie:Border Collies may want to herd young children. This can be dangerous for the young child, as the dog may nip at the heels. Do not allow your dog or puppy to herd humans period! These dogs may chase cars and bikes and the result could be a large vet bill. Their intelligence helps them to be excellent escape artists and the owner finds himself or herself in a constant battle to keep the dog contained.
The most common reason why Border Collies are turned into animal shelters are they are very energetic, some more than others. Not all Border Collies herd children, chase cars, are an escape artist or are very energetic.
However, most Border Collies are energetic dogs because they were bred to herd all day long over miles and miles of land. Do research on the breed, and note the dog's purpose before buying. If a Border Collie has these "behavior problems" they can usually be overcome with training, prevention, or exercise.
