Crate Information When buying crates consider this: *Crates are not inhumane, unless the dog is kept in there for unreasonable long lengths of time. *Dogs view crates as their own personal den, as a pack of wolves would in the wild. *Crates are effective for "potty training" puppies because dogs do not want to go to the bathroom in their "den". *They contain dogs and puppies if non-dog guests come to visit. *They prevent dogs and puppies from destroying and using the bathroom in the house while the owner is away. *They provide the dog an escape from children or other pets. *Before buying a crate for transportation on an airplane, be sure the crate is airline approved. *They are useful or required for dog shows and events. *Be sure to get the correct high and size. *If you have a puppy, get the size of crate the puppy will need when it is fully grown. You can get an crate divider and will not have to buy another crate.
Types of Crates: Wire Crates: As the name suggests these crates are made out of wire, and the closer the wire, the stronger the crate. These crates are very good for ventilation and allowing the dog to look out. They come in many different colors, wire spacing, and some have two doors. These types are usually not airline approved. Wire Fold and Carry Crates: These crates are perfect for traveling, and come in very handy in all dog shows. They are easy to fold up and have the same benefits as the wire crates do. These types may not be airline approved as well. Plastic Crates: These crates are the type used for traveling on airlines. The amount of ventilation, colors, styles, and head room varies. Fold and Carry Plastic Crates: These crates have the same benefits as the plastic crates do except, they can be folded down. Other Crates: There are also decorative types available, such as rattan. These are usually expensive and are just for containing the dog around the home. They are not recommended for puppies, or dogs that are problem chewers.
