General appearance of Border Collies:Border collies were bred to be functional and not for appearance- so their appearance varies greatly. Beauty is as beauty does, really applies to this breed! They are well-balanced, generally medium-sized dogs, that have the agility, stamina, and strength to to be able to work long period of time doing what they were bred to do. Border Collies should be bred only for work and not for "conformation".
Characteristics of Border Collies: Border Collies are considered the smartest dog breed in the world. They are extremely responsive to training for many different tasks. Border Collies that are well bred should instinctively circle around livestock without any training, and they will exercise their power over it with their intent gaze. They show an amazing skill in turning, stopping, and dropping, and they have very unusual stamina and speed for a breed of its size. This is due to the Border Collie being bred for work, thus Border Collies make an excellent dog for agility competitions and other performance sports.
Ears of Border Collies: Their ears are sensitive in use and they can carry their ears from drop to prick.
Eyes of Border Collies: This breed's eyes are generally rather large and are usually blue, amber, or brown. Dogs may even have one blue eye and one brown eye.
Body of Border Collies: Their body is athletic, ribs are well sprung, the chest is deep and somewhat broad, their loins are muscular and deep, however they are not pulled up. Their length is slightly longer than their height.
Feet of Border Collies: The feet of Border Collies are shaped like an oval, their pads are strong, sound, and deep. Their toes are close together and are arched. Their nails are strong and short.
The Gait of the Border Collie: It is smooth and free with a tireless appearance. Border Collies move with little lift of feet, expressing the skill to move with great speed and power.
Color of Border Collies: Border collies come in a wide variety of colors. Anything goes as long as it is functional!
